Crystal Palace legend Darren Ambrose believes Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham would be a big success if he makes the short trip across London from one Premier League club to another, as he told talkSPORT (27 July, 12.40pm).
While Patrick Vieira has made a promising start to an exhausting rebuilding project at Selhurst Park – a Joachim Andersen, Marc Guehi partnership looks good on paper while Michael Olise already feels like the bargain of the summer – a prolific centre-forward could take a side mired in mid-table mediocrity to an all-new level.
Enter Abraham.
According to the Mirror, Crystal Palace are one of a number of clubs eyeing Chelsea’s England international benchwarmer.
Abraham finished as the club’s joint-top scorer last season too; some feat given that he barely featured after Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in the Stamford Bridge dugout just after Christmas.
Could Crystal Palace really lure Tammy Abraham away from Chelsea?
Ambrose believes that Crystal Palace should be at the front of the queue for a penalty-box poacher who has scored 21 goals in 35 top-flight starts in Chelsea colours.
“Yeah he does (have to leave). It’s evident that Thomas Tuchel is not a fan. Talking about taking a step back to take a step forward, Tammy has to do that and there will be suitors, for sure,” said Ambrose, a former Palace talisman who now represents the club in an ambassadorial role.

“£30 million – £40 million, whatever it may be, it’s been OK at Chelsea but he hasn’t had the opportunities he wanted under Tuchel. He’ll know himself that it’s time to go and try and become the main man somewhere.
“Arsenal, West Ham… he’d fit really well. Being a Palace guy, I’ve touted him for Palace. I think he’d be outstanding for Crystal Palace – the type of player they’re looking at, a young player, exciting.”
With Chelsea demanding £40 million for Abraham, however, the chances of Palace winning the race look slim.
Once Andersen arrives from Lyon, Steve Parish will have invested nearly £50 million on new signings since the start of the summer.
It is believed that Arsenal are currently the most likely destination for Abraham.
