Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has suggested to Leeds Live that Ronaldo Vieira needs to learn how to handle the pressure of playing for the club.

Heckingbottom made the comments following Leeds’s 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Elland Road in the Championship last Friday afternoon.

Vieira played well for the Whites in the match, and his performance was one of his best so far this season.

The 19-year-old midfielder enjoyed a superb season on a personal level in 2016-17, but the England Under-20 international has failed to reach that level so far this campaign.

Leeds head coach Heckingbottom has suggested that Vieira needs to handle the pressure well.

Heckingbottom told Leeds Live about Vieira: “He burst onto the scene, he’s got tremendous attributes, big potential. He’s got to learn about himself, the game, what’s required and that’s our job.

“And everyone sometimes when young players burst on like that the pressure put on them is not necessary really.

“It can be tough to handle and already playing at a big club in a tough league as a young person, it’s a tough job anyway so things like that can be handled well, while still being really pushy in how we want him to play and really demanding in him. But he still needs this support.”

Talented footballer

Vieira is a very talented and young footballer, and it would be harsh to heap too much pressure on him at this stage of his career.

The England Under-20 international should be allowed to develop at his own pace, and one should not forget that he is only 19 years of age and is far from the finished article.
