Leeds United chose not to pursue new Reading signing Andy Yiadom.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom submitted a list of his preferred transfer targets – but he may not end up with two of his top suggestions.
The Whites head into the transfer window needing major reinforcements this summer, having again finished in the bottom half of the Championship table.
No deals have been struck just yet, but director of football Victor Orta will again be in charge of transfers despite a number of failed signings last summer – and that may just be cause for concern for boss Heckingbottom.
The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Heckingbottom submitted a list of his preferred signings this summer, but one has already been overlooked, and one remains hanging in the balance.
It’s stated that Heckingbottom wanted to reunite with Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom on a free transfer, but Leeds chose not to follow up on that suggestion as they felt comfortable with their right backs, and didn’t want another right-footed left back.
Additionally, Heckingbottom wants Swansea City striker Oliver McBurnie having signed him for Barnsley, but Leeds are prioritising Hull City’s Abel Hernandez instead right now, and The Sun report that Rangers have offered £4million for McBurnie.
If Leeds don’t sign another of Heckingbottom’s recommendations in McBurnie, it may just be a major worry for the Whites boss that he doesn’t have the backing he needs at Elland Road, especially if Orta is in sole control of signings after his disastrous record.
Leeds fans may actually want Heckingbottom to leave after his poor start to life at Elland Road, but any manager wants backing from above – and with the Whites potentially missing out on two of his suggestions, Heckingbottom would be forgiven for thinking there may be a lack of belief in him from inside the club.
