Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has suggested to Leeds Live that he never planned to use Ryan Edmondson against Norwich City.

Edmondson was part of the Leeds squad that travelled to Norwich for the Championship game at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon.

The 16-year-old striker, who joined the Whites from York City in November 2017, was not even on the substitutes’ bench for the West Yorkshire outfit, as they lost 2-1.

Leeds head coach Heckingbottom has suggested that he did not plan to use Edmondson at all against Norwich and took him to the game to give him an experience of the first team.

Heckingbottom told Leeds Live about Edmondson: “Wasn’t going to put him on the bench. He was down about being suspended for the under-18s, but this was a good opportunity to keep his head up and get him in with the first-team squad.”

Good idea?

Edmondson has been playing well for the Leeds Under-18 side this season, and it must have been great for him to get a feel of the first team on the trip to Norwich.

It is too early for the teenage striker to be thrown into the first team, but it is a testament to his quality and potential that Leeds head coach Heckingbottom thought that he was good enough to be part of the first team at Norwich.
