The Scottish Sun claim the Jambos are eying up a swoop for McKay after he left Swansea City at the end of last season as they look to bolster Robbie Neilson’s squad despite the transfer window being shut.

McKay has struggled to hit the heights expected of him when he made the breakthrough at Rangers almost a decade ago, with stints in English football not quite going to plan.

After leaving Swansea at the end of last season, the former Rangers winger could be set to return to Scottish football with the Tynecastle side.

The Jambos have added a number of new faces this summer following their return to the top-flight and McKay would be an interesting addition to the Hearts squad.

Robbie Neilson’s side have made a fantastic start to the season so far, winning three and drawing once in their opening four games.

McKay made over 100 appearances for Rangers before he was sold following a falling out with then Gers boss Pedro Caixinha – with the winger claiming his treatment at Ibrox was “inhumane.”

Spells with Nottingham Forest, Fleetwood Town and Swansea City followed McKay’s time at Rangers with the winger failing to make more than 40 appearances at any of them.

A return to Scotland would be a good chance for McKay to try get his career back on track and possibly even push himself back into the reckoning for a place in the Scotland squad.
