It looks like Lucas Torreira is determined to leave Arsenal for Boca Juniors this summer.

ESPN reported in midweek that the Argentine giants are keen on signing the Uruguay international, who has struggled in a big way during his season-long loan to Atletico Madrid.

And Torreira himself later told the same publication that he is ‘dying to play’ for Boca, his boyhood club.

But there’s also a sad reason as to why the player wants a return to South America.

The former Sampdoria midfielder, who joined Arsenal almost three years ago, lost his mother this week and Torreira revealed that he wants to be closer to his family.

Here’s how some Gunners fans reacted to the player’s heartbreaking comments:

He joined the Emirates Stadium side for £26 million almost three years ago and despite a brilliant first season in North London, has progressively gone backwards since.

Mikel Arteta seems to have no long-term plans for him and with Unai Emery, Raul Sanllehi and Sven Mislintat – three big figures at Arsenal at the time of his arrival – no longer at the club, it would seem like there’s little reason for Torreira to hang around if he isn’t needed.
