Tottenham Hotspur slumped to quite a dreadful defeat in the Europa Conference League last night.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side went down 1-0 away to Vitesse in the Netherlands.

The Portuguese brought a weakened squad with him and that has to be noted.

But, by the same token, Tottenham had more enough quality to see off the Dutch outfit – including Dele Alli.

Of all the players Nuno named in the first XI, he’ll have counted on Alli the most to make the team tick.

But it was a pretty poor performance from the 25-year-old and with January on the horizon, this does his chances of staying in North London no good at all.

Alli, who earns £100,000 per week at the club, lost possession no fewer than 13 times throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch and perhaps even worse, didn’t have a single shot.

The England international was taken off at half time in Tottenham’s North London derby defeat by Arsenal last month and was an unused substitute in the subsequent two Premier League games.

Tragic

He is very much out of favour – evident by the fact he even started last night – and it genuinely wouldn’t be a surprise if this form signals the beginning of the end for him at the club.

Given how influential Alli was under Mauricio Pochettino, this is quite a heartbreaking fall from grace for the former MK Dons starlet and you could argue that his performance last night represented rock bottom.

Alli won’t be finished at Spurs until the day he leaves, because you can never fully count out a player of his undeniable quality.

But it’s growing increasingly harder to see him ever getting back on his feet, irrespective of who the manager is.
