Arsenal fans could have been forgiven for questioning what might have been after last night’s display from Kylian Mbappe for PSG.

Arsenal fans watched on as Mbappe ripped apart Barcelona and the Nou Camp yesterday, as PSG won 4-1.

The night seemed to mark a changing of the guard, with Mbappe really announcing himself as the heir to Lionel Messi’s throne.

Mbappe’s story could have all been so different if he had taken Arsene Wenger up on his offer to come to Arsenal all those years ago, though.

Wenger did everything in his power to persuade Mbappe to leave Monaco and move to the Emirates Stadium, but was unable to do so at the time, as Football London reported.

And Arsenal supporters were left ruing Wenger’s failure to bring the world-class forward to North London last night, after seeing the scale of his talents at the Nou Camp.

If Mbappe had moved to Arsenal he unquestionably would have been a major asset for them.

However, there would have to be questions over whether they would have able to keep hold of him – given Arsenal’s repeated failures to make it into the Champions League.

Of course, if Mikel Arteta’s side had someone of Mbappe’s quality in their ranks right now, then their top four chances would be hugely increased.

But it may be that the boat has now passed for Arsenal to ever sign Mbappe, given his extraordinary value, and Gunners supporters will now almost certainly have to view his career from afar.
