Hibernian talent Josh Doig wasn’t really on the radar before this season, and he is still making a name for himself in Scotland.

The 18-year-old was on the books of Edinburgh rivals Heart of Midlothian before joining Hibs in 2019, and he spent part of 2020 on loan at Queen’s Park.

Now though, the teenager is a key part of Jack Ross’s Hibs side, starring as a left back or left wing back this season.

Doig is now attracting major interest, with The Scottish Daily Mail (16/03, p76) reporting last week that Arsenal and Leeds United are the frontrunners for Doig.

Celtic also want Doig, with Sky Sports claiming that they’re looking towards a summer deal for the youngster.

A real battle could ensue this summer, with Hibs allegedly seeking around £1.5million for their prized teenager at the end of the season.

Doig doesn’t have to look far for inspiration, as fellow Scottish left backs Kieran Tierney and Andrew Robertson are excelling in the Premier League with Arsenal and Liverpool respectively.

A move to Arsenal would see him battle with Tierney for years to come, and Doig has now commented on his admiration for the former Celtic star.

Doig has told The Scottish Daily Mail (21/03 print edition, page 144) that he thought Tierney was ‘unbelievable’ at Celtic, and is a big inspiration because of his ‘heart and desire’ – meaning the chance to join Tierney in North London may be too good to turn down.

“I remember watching Kieran Tierney playing for Celtic and I thought he was unbelievable. He is a big inspiration for me, just because of the amount of heart and desire he has,” said Doig.
