Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Sky presenter David Jones raved about the ‘absolutely magnificent’ atmosphere Leeds fans created before kick-off on Sunday, as they told Sky Sports PL (12/09/21 at 4:25 pm).
Former Leeds striker Hasselbaink urged viewers to ‘hear them, hear them’ as the home fans cranked up the noise in the build-up to their heavyweight clash against Liverpool.
For the first time in nearly two decades, Leeds fans were able to pack out Elland Road to watch their team face-off against the mighty Merseyside giants.
Despite the white-hot noise being created by the Whites faithful, it still wasn’t enough because their team ended up losing the encounter 3-0.
Nonetheless, this is what Burton boss Hasselbaink and Sky presenter Jones had to say about the Leeds supporters, as they sat in the Sky studios.
“The atmosphere is cranking up here,” said Jones. “There is no glass in our studio. That is just a wall of noise outside of our studio here at Elland Road.
“There are cries of Yorkshire from here at Elland Road. Does this atmosphere bring back some memories because we are right in the singing section here, aren’t we?!”
Hasselbaink responded: “It is an absolutely magnificent place to play football. One of the best in the Premier League. This is what you want. This is the type of atmosphere you want to be in.
“I have had both sides. I have played for them and against them. And, believe me, when you play against them, it’s not that great. It’s a great arena. Hear them, hear them! It’s just absolutely magnificent.”
Jones then added further: “What a noise here. It’s a white-hot atmosphere as two of England’s most famous football clubs go head-to-head.”

Whilst the Elland Road crowd were unable to push their team over the line yesterday, it needs to be remembered that not many teams will come to Yorkshire with the forward-thinking quality of Jurgen Klopp’s men.
From Thiago controlling proceedings in the middle of the park and Mohamed Salah causing havoc out on the right, it was Liverpool at their attacking best.
But Leeds, somehow and somewhere, need to get those three points on the board because they are entering that worrying territory now.
A lot more will be known about Bielsa’s side this Friday because they lock horns against another winless team in Newcastle United.
Lose that then there will be serious worry amongst those in Leeds colours as to what may happen to them this season.
