Celtic fans have responded with fury to news that 13 players are self-isolating following the club’s trip to Dubai.

Many have spent the last week expressing their discontent after the club headed for the UAE within hours of their 1-0 defeat against Rangers at Ibrox.

That decision was followed by comments on the matter from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Deputy First Minister John Swinney, along with condemnation from a number of pundits.

The club have now announced that Christopher Jullien has since tested positive for Covid-19, and that a total of 13 players are now having to self-isolate.

Manager Neil Lennon and assistant John Kennedy are also self-isolating.

During her Monday lunchtime briefing on BBC Scotland, the First Minister said: “This whole episode should underline how serious the situation we are in now is. Everyone including football should be erring on the side of caution.

“I know fans of other clubs feel very strongly that the whole of football should not pay the price for the actions of any one club, and I agree with that.

“But of course a situation like this does make it essential for us to review the rules – including those around travel exemptions – and that’s what we will be doing. As we do, I do hope that Celtic themselves will reflect seriously on all of this.”

With Celtic dominating the headlines for the wrong reasons once again this season, these supporters have made their feelings clear .

Celtic go into tonight’s match against Hibs with a depleted squad as they aim to make up some ground on Rangers.

With four games in hand, they currently trail their rivals by 22 points in the title race.
