Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports Football (23/09/20 at 9:50 pm) that Jordan Pickford was playing like someone whose ‘heads in a tumble dryer’ during Everton’s League Cup win against Fleetwood on Wednesday night.
It was looking like a comfortable night for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who went into the break 2-0 up, but inside the early stages of the second-half, it was 3-2 to the away side because of Pickford’s mistakes.
For the first error, he failed to get the ball out of his feet quick enough before being pressed into a mistake. Not long after, he was in two minds as to whether to catch the ball before he flapped at the shot on goal.
Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp blasted Pickford for taking the limelight away from his side’s win in a negative way.
“After that moment [first mistake] it’s like your heads in a tumble dryer,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “You don’t know what to do. You try to make up for the [first] mistake.
“I think he should actually do better [second mistake]. I don’t want to take anything away from the finish because it’s a lovely piece of play from Callum Camps, he improvises really well.

“But even then. Look at the way he tries to save it. His confidence isn’t at the highest. He tries to catch it or palm it away. He doesn’t cover himself in glory at all.
“We should be talking about it being not far off a perfect night for Everton. There were so many things to admire about them and then you end up talking about the goalkeepers two mistakes which could really have cost them.”

Serious questions have to be asked now of Pickford because if Everton are to progress, they surely cannot have him in between the sticks.
Everton have spent money in the transfer market once again this summer, but it seems that they may have to search for another shot-stopper.
The problem with Pickford is that he creates moments of panic at any time, whether Everton are playing well or behind and under pressure.
