Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Shay Given has been discussing Moises Caicedo after he signed his new contract with Brighton.

The Ecuadorian midfielder has put pen to paper on new terms at the Amex just weeks after publicly posting a goodbye message to the south coast club amid interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea.

Caicedo has now signed a new deal, but Given doesn’t believe that necessarily means he’ll be staying at Brighton, stating that the player’s head could be turned again if a club like Liverpool come in for him in the summer.

Caicedo’s head will be turned

Given spoke about Caicedo’s future.

“Yeah but if Liverpool come in tomorrow for a move in the summer and put the money down and say ‘there’s X amount, we want you.’ His head will be turned again because he will be on a bigger contract again probably if he goes to one of the Champions League clubs,” Given said.

Possible

Caicedo may have committed his future to Brighton, but things can change very quickly in this game.

The midfielder made it clear in January that he was ready to leave Brighton for either Chelsea or Arsenal, and if one of the Premier League’s big boys make a sizeable offer in the summer transfer window, he could again push to leave.

Of course, new contracts do give some level of protection to a club hoping to keep hold of their star player, but at the end of the day, if a big offer comes in, these contracts are only worth the paper they’re written on.

Make no mistake about it, the transfer saga surrounding Caicedo is far from over.
