Arsenal v Burnley – Can the Clarets hurt the Gunners in any area?

We assess the statistics from the season so far to see if there is anyway Burnley can beat Arsenal this weekend.

Burnley have found the going tough since promotion to the Premier League last season.

The Clarets were the Championship’s surprise package last year, as they climbed into the automatic promotion spaces as a result of the structure which Sean Dyche had implemented.

Solid and organised, Burnley had a potent attacking unit of Sam Vokes and Danny Ings and the pairing fired them to success whilst they remained strong at the back.

It was a formula which they have tried to recreate at the top level, even without the injured Vokes, but things have proven a lot tougher.

Burnley are yet to win this season and things do not get any easier for them this weekend when they travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

The Gunners have not been at their best to date, but they are still outperforming Burnley in every area and it is hard to assess where the underdogs will be able to hurt Arsene Wenger’s men.

Burnley have actually had a credible amount of shots this season, but they have struggled to stop other teams having chances against them.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have proven a tough team to break down and have faced over 60 fewer shots than Burnley during the season so far.

The Champions League chasers’ class is also obvious when looking at their passing statistics. Burnley’s 72% pass completion ratio is a worry and they will have to retain possession better than that if they are to avoid a defeat when they head to North-London.

Dyche’s men will be desperate to get their first win under their belt before too much longer, but doing so at the weekend looks a tough task.
