Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea this summer as both sides embark on potential rebuilds.
Chelsea decided to come to a ‘mutual agreement’ to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino following a disappointing season for the Blues with the club finishing in sixth place in the Premier League.
Things could have been a lot worse for Pochettino’ side with the club languishing in midtable in March, before rallying in the final two months of the season to finish in a European spot.
As for Manchester United, their fate is a lot more murky with the club taking on Manchester City in the FA Cup final, knowing that a win would get the club a major trophy, as well as Europa League football next season.
Frank linked to United and Chelsea
It seems both sides are keen on appointing the Dutchman, or at least having him as an option with The Times reporting that the Red Devils have shortlisted the Brentford boss as potential Erik ten Hag replacements.
Speaking on talkSPORT, presenter Natalie Sawyer, who is a Brentford fan, was asked whether the Danish manager would be good enough to lead at Old Trafford or at Stamford Bridge.
“I think he has the mentality to, personally from him, and I think he would relish that opportunity,” Sawyer said. “Do I think that the fans would look upon him as the right manager? I am not sure yet. That’s his problem, unfortunately.
“We love him, we don’t want him to leave, we think he is the best thing since sliced bread because of what he has done for us. But, do I think he deserves a chance? Yeah, I do, in a way, but I don’t want him to leave.”
Thomas Frank has led Brentford into the Premier League and has kept them in England’s top division for three seasons in a row, which is no mean feat considering the budget that the Bees possess compared to their rivals.
Frank ready for a bigger job
The Danish manager has certainly proven that he is more than ready for a big opportunity but whether the 52-year-old has the personality and the patience to be able to deal with the high pressure environment in Manchester or West London, is unclear.
It seems that other managers in the division were full of praise for how the Bees line up under the Dane. Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Brentford’s media team, believed that Brentford are a “super difficult team to play against”.
Pep Guardiola was another manager to praise the Dane. As per The Independent, the Spaniard was quoted as saying: “It’s the best team by far, but not just on set pieces. It’s an exceptional team. I have a lot of admiration for what Thomas Frank has done for many years. When you see, for example, what Bournemouth have done since [Gary] O’Neil took over — and Brentford — it’s exceptional.”
