Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles revealed two very specific additions that Jose Mourinho wants for Tottenham.
Castles said: ‘His view is they need a centre-back who is quicker over the ground and can compare to Eric Dier or Toby Alderweireld, and is also left-footed to help with the circulation of the play.
‘Also, he would like another centre-midfielder added to the squad. A box-to-box midfielder, someone who can knit the play from back to front.’
Tottenham’s squad is looking very healthy right now, and it’s currently a case of fine tuning the side rather than overseeing a mass overhaul.
In that respect, Mourinho has his transfer plans spot on.
In Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier, the Portuguese coach has some decent centre-back options. However, they’re all right-footed.

Since Jan Vertonghen’s exit, Spurs haven’t had a left-footed centre-back, something that’s crucial for the balance of the team.
Additionally, you can see why Mourinho wants a box-to-box centre-midfielder.
In Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the ex-Chelsea boss has a fantastic screen ahead of his defence, but one who rarely joins the attack.

In Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, he has almost the opposite – players who love to attack, but aren’t as capable defensively.
So, if Mourinho can find someone to do both of those jobs, then it would compliment his other midfield options tremendously with plenty of various abilities on show.
The north Londoners are already looking in fine form, so just imagine where these two additions could take Spurs, should they arrive that is.
