Matty Cash could soon be representing Poland with the Aston Villa star close to obtaining a Polish passport, according to his father.
Speaking to Sportowe Fakty, Stuart Cash confirmed that the Premier League defender started the process to obtain a Polish website some time ago. Cash is legible to play for Poland via his mother, who was born there.
The Villa defender has been one of the most consistent right-backs in the division since arriving from Nottingham Forest last year. However, with England having an abundance of right-sided fullbacks, Cash’s chances of being selected for the Three Lions have always been slim.
Indeed, this could be why Cash has sought to play for Poland over the past few months. And the player’s father has now confirmed that the defender should receive his Polish passport soon.
Cash’s father Stuart said: “We’ve started the process to receive Polish passport months ago and it should be completed soon.
“He would be open to play with Poland [national team], if they want”.
It is an interesting development in Cash’s career. The defender has gone from strength to strength since arriving at Villa 12 months ago, and now representing a nation such as Poland will do wonders to his international profile.
With Poland bolstering an impressive roster of players that includes the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Wojciech Szczesny and Piotr Zielinski, Cash could one day be playing with some serious talent in the coming months should he decide to declare for Poland.
