‘He won’t start’: Bielsa says Leeds player will be on the bench on Saturday

Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed to Leeds Live that Leeds United’s Rodrigo will be on the substitutes’ bench at the weekend, when his side take on Fulham.

Rodrigo made his first start for Leeds in midweek, as they lost on penalties against Hull City in the League Cup.

The Spaniard was unable to get on the scoresheet on his full debut for Leeds.

And it seems that Rodrigo may now have to wait a little while longer before he makes his first start in the Premier League for Bielsa’s side.

“He won’t start the game at the weekend, but he’s in a good condition to start if we want him to,” Bielsa said.

Leeds brought Rodrigo off the bench on opening day, but he gave away a penalty in their defeat to Liverpool.

If Bielsa is to leave Rodrigo out of his starting line-up again then it surely means Patrick Bamford will be given the nod to start.

Bamford scored for Leeds on opening day, and will be looking to keep up his momentum.

There were some doubts about Bamford’s scoring prowess at the top level, but he looked a real threat against Liverpool, and if he keeps hitting the back of the net then Bielsa could struggle to take him out of the team.
