Gary Neville says Daniel Levy ‘won’t care’ what people think amid the current issues at managerless Tottenham Hotspur.
The Manchester United legend thinks Tottenham have made a ‘mess’ of their season, from the situation surrounding the now-sacked Antonio Conte to Daniel Levy’s decision to not appoint a new manager until the summer.
It’s Cristian Stellini who is in charge of Spurs, and whilst they have suffered only one defeat since he replaced Conte, the performances have been beyond abject.
Spurs struggled against ten-man Everton after the international break, before being very lucky to beat Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton, but they suffered a deserved 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth over the weekend.
Things could yet get worse for the club because their next trip is one to St James’ Park where they face off against a Newcastle United team that is also pushing for Champions League football and will be very hungry to bounce back from their 3-0 hammering at Aston Villa recently.
Nonetheless, given the goings-on at Spurs, Gary Neville shared his thoughts on all, as he told Sky Sports.
“He was loyal to Conte was Stellini, he wasn’t going to change anything dramatically,” said Nevile. “They have just talked themselves into having a bad season, Spurs. This problem between Conte and Levy sort of emerged when really Tottenham were fourth in the league.
“I still think they still in the Champions League. The stadium is full and you are thinking ‘What’s the problem here?’ Why is this negativity? It’s obvious that Levy and Conte, it was always going to come to that. But I am surprised it came so early. I thought they could have navigated it and sort of had a truce to the end of the season.
“Once you sack Conte, after his rant, which was inevitable. You then have to make a decision. I think they waited like ten days to sack Conte, after his rant. You think ‘Surely in those ten days, they have a manager sorted? They have something ironed out and buttoned down?’ And they haven’t done.
“Daniel Levy won’t panic. I don’t think he will care what anybody says. I think he will want to get to the end of the season. They are now going to struggle to finish in the top four. They have really messed it up during the last part of the season.”
HARRY KANE TO THE RESCUE?
If it wasn’t for the Spurs striker, then the club would be in a world of mess.
But, whilst the north London club look over their shoulder, the one man they can look towards as a ray of light is Kane.
Even amid their gloom, if he turns it on, then he will win them games and possibly fire them to an unlikely Champions League finish.
