Michael Owen has stated that Harry Kane ‘won’t be happy’ with the possibility that he will possibly score ‘half a dozen’ goals less for Tottenham because he has to drop deep, as he told Premier League Productions.

The TV pundit added that Kane will be thinking that he wants to stay further forward and demanding his teammates to be more creative, so he can score more goals.

As Kane proved on Sunday, whilst Spurs ran out 3-1 winners against West Ham United, the England captain didn’t get on the scoresheet.

Instead, he dropped deep and supplied two assists for Heung-Min Son to net a brace in the game.

In the Premier League this season, Kane has 12 goals to his name, whilst his record-breaking partner has one more.

Owen shared that Kane won’t like that fact because, whenever Son is putting the ball into the back of the net, he is 40 odd yards away from the goal.

“He will be thinking that now (Kane possibly telling his teammates he wants to stay further forward so he can score more),” said Owen. “Son has got ahead of him in the scoring charts. He won’t like that.

“He’s such an all-round player that it’s unbelievable. He can do both (play the numbers nine and ten).

“I just worry, for him, when we have seen the ridiculous number of goals he has scored over the years. At the moment, he is on around 12 Premier League goals. He will see Mo Salah miles clear. Son has now scored more than him.

“A lot of the time, he is building the play up there. By the time Son is banging it into the back of the net, he is still 40 odd yards away from goal.

“As much as he can do these things, it might mean that it’s going to be half a dozen goals less. He won’t be happy with that. But it could mean longevity.”

In truth, given the quality Kane has in his locker, it would be daft for him not to drop deep because he could get into most sides with his passing alone.

But, ever since Christian Eriksen’s departure from Spurs, the north London club have missed that creative spark.

Perhaps dipping into the transfer market and bringing in that much-needed playmaker would allow Kane to be more selfish without the ball.

Although, he did prove last season under Jose Mourinho, that he can drop deep all he wants, but he can still finish as the Premier League’s top-scorer and assist-maker.
