Tim Sherwood has claimed that Marcelo Bielsa ‘wishes’ that he left Leeds United in the summer, as he told Premier League Productions (09/12/21 at 1:20 pm)

The outspoken pundit has stated that it has gone ‘stale’ with the Leeds man in the dugout and he thinks he will be gone by next season.

Bielsa always likes to sign short contracts and that hasn’t been any different at Elland Road.

But, compared to other jobs, this is the longest Bielsa has been at a club and the highly-demanding coach has had huge success during that period.

The most difficult of them all was promoting a Leeds side that was stagnating in England’s lower leagues for nearly two decades.

But Sherwood thinks that Leeds now need a new voice on the training pitch and Bielsa will be out of the exit door in 2022.

“What you can’t measure is the medical tiredness,” said Sherwood. “I think the mental side of working with this guy, twice a day and every single day.

“It’s the longest he has been at any football club. Now, he is demanding. I think he is over-demanding. I think they need a new voice. I think he’s great and I am a big fan of Bielsa.

“But I bet now, he would never give up or walk away. Never ever. But I bet he wishes that he possibly did in hindsight, before the start of the season and went for a new challenge. It’s almost like he has got the best out of this group and I am not sure he can squeeze any more out of them.

“I think they have gone a little stale, in their minds when they are listening to this guy driving them every single day.

“For the life of me, I can’t see him being Leeds manager (next season). But what a job for someone next year.”

Judging by Leeds’ performances, nothing seems to have gone stale with the players out on the pitch.

Those 100 miles-per-hour performances are still being produced, it’s just a case of needing a bit of luck along the way.

It doesn’t help when your star striker returns from a long lay-off, scores a stoppage-time equaliser upon his return and then finds himself in the treatment room once again in next to no time.

Then there is Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper, who are also out injured following that 2-2 draw with Brentford.
