Darren Ambrose has claimed that centre-back Harry Maguire won’t be joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer because he will ‘stay’ at Manchester United.
The Tottenham-mad pundit added that Harry Maguire is ‘comfortable’ at Old Trafford because his England spot isn’t under threat, with Gareth Southgate continually picking him despite his lack of minutes on the domestic stage, as he told talkSPORT.
That was proven this season when the 30-year-old was picked for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, even though he was benched by Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

That continued for Maguire after the World Cup and it seems as though he won’t be getting ahead of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane any time soon.
Despite those lack of minutes and form, he is still attracting transfer interest from other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham.
Nonetheless, this is what former Premier League midfielder Ambrose had to say about Maguire’s future given that the summer transfer window is now officially open.
“Yes, Southgate can keep picking Maguire and he will (even if he doesn’t leave Man United this summer),” said Ambrose. “I think Harry Maguire knows this as well. He is safe in the England squad, no matter what happens at Manchester United.
“So, he is comfortable in staying and fighting for his place, or not, whatever the case may be. I feel, as someone who played the game, then retired, you have got to get out and play.
“If he goes somewhere else, and his form dips again, he’s playing week in and week out, then gets dropped from that team as well, then the likelihood of Gareth Southgate not picking him probably would come into play then.
“What has he got one-year left on his contract at Man United? He will stay there, pick up the money and then leave on a free.”

Maguire needs to leave
It’s pretty simple, if Maguire’s England spot was under threat, then he would be racing out of the Old Trafford exit doors this summer.
But, even if Maguire retired, Southgate would still probably pick the £190k-a-week star (Spotrac), who is only harming his reputation even further by staying at his current club.
Given that he is 30 and his best years are no longer ahead of him, then what’s the point in just sitting on the bench, rotting away and going backwards during a time of your career when you are supposed to play your best football?!
