Jay Bothroyd says Southampton’s free-kick specialist James Ward-Prowse will secure a transfer to West Ham United this summer.

It’s time to spend the Declan Rice money and it seems as though David Moyes wants Southampton’s captain on board this summer – there have been positive talks about a move.

Former Arsenal man Bothroyd thinks ‘he will go’ and James Ward-Prowse will be ‘perfect’ for the club, as he will also provide ‘energy’ to West Ham’s midfield, as he told Sky Sports.

West Ham are yet to bring anyone in following Rice’s record-breaking move to Arsenal, but they better get a hurry on because pre-season has already started.

They weren’t helped by the deal being delayed by Arsenal at the other end, but if Ward-Prowse becomes one of their first signings, then it’s a good start.

Bothroyd is expecting him to move and he described what the England international will bring to the table.

“Now, there is inflation,” said Bothroyd. “Clubs know that West Ham need a player.

“I think Ward-Prowse would go. I think that’s a fantastic signing. I have always liked Ward-Prowse. I am surprised bigger clubs didn’t come for him earlier – I think a club like West Ham would be perfect for him.

“He will go in there. He will be one of the first names on the teamsheet. Great at set-pieces. He has good energy. A good passing range. Great stadium and the fans are great. I think it will be a great landing space for him as well.”

Ward-Prowse would suit Moyes

A combative player that can perform in a two-man or three-man midfield, someone like Ward-Prowse suits Moyes’ style more than Lucas Paqueta did when he first joined.

Not only will the Saints star’s experience at the top stage allow him to settle in quicker, but he has great ability at winning the ball back, doing the simple stuff and allowing others around him to sing and dance.

Not only that, he then becomes very, very dangerous at set-piece situations, and given that the Hammers are a physical team, then it will be one more string to their bow.
