Speaking to Everton’s official club website, Rafa Benitez has been discussing Ben Godfrey and his recovery from covid.
Unfortunately, Godfrey was struck down by the virus during the summer, meaning that he couldn’t play in the Toffees’ opening games of the season.
However, he’s since worked his way back into the side, impressing once again this weekend as he faced his former club Norwich City.
Despite the fact Godfrey has been brilliant as of late, Benitez believes he can continue to improve as he gets over the illness he had in the summer.

Benitez spoke about Godfrey improving.
“He is getting better and, little-by-little, he will be better still,” Benitez said
“His fitness is maybe 70 per cent, he can improve a lot.
“In terms of his understanding and position and things he has to do, he is very keen to learn.
“We are talking all the time on the training ground, so he can improve, and I am sure he will do it.”
Frightening prospect
The idea of Godfrey getting even better is a frightening prospect.
Benitez believes he can still improve by 30 per cent, and if he does, we’ll be looking at one of the best defenders in the country, and with Everton just one point off the top of the table, there’s no reason why the Toffees can’t compete for a Champions League spot this season.
It’s hard to imagine Godfrey being much better than he already has been this season, but Benitez thinks he’s got an extra gear or two to find.
