Jermaine Beckford has told the Doing a Leeds podcast that Mateusz Klich ‘wasn’t comfortable’ in the position he played during his side’s 4-1 defeat to Leicester City on Monday night.

The former striker admitted that it was something which left him frustrated because he thinks Klich needed to play further forward and the more defensive-minded role handed to him didn’t suit him.

Leeds have their talisman in the middle of the park – Kalvin Phillips – out injured, so they have to do without his influences on the pitch.

Beckford suggested that in Phillips’ absence, Pascal Struijk should be the one filling that role rather than Klich.

“My frustration and don’t get me wrong I am not a manager or coach,” said Beckford. “But watching the match, just watching the position of Klich in the centre of midfield. The holding centre-mid.

“He wasn’t comfortable there. It’s not his position. He’s more of an advanced player. He’s box-to-box. He needs to get forwards and back. I think he would have been better suited to play a little bit more advanced.

“I think Pascal should have been playing in that holding role because it’s where he plays naturally.”

Leeds were without Phillips, and even more, depleted starting XI, when they put three past Aston Villa a fortnight ago.

And despite being more balanced and stronger against the Foxes, their forward line proved to be too quick and dangerous for the men in white.

But Leeds need to take the positives and understand that whilst they were on the end of a heavy defeat on Monday, they can also dish it out.
