Robin van Persie has praised the impact of Jordan Henderson on Liverpool’s team last night, during BT Sport’s Live Champions League coverage.
Henderson was introduced at half-time for Liverpool against Ajax and he helped them see out an important victory to get their European campaign off to a perfect start.
The England international was brought on at half-time for Curtis Jones, as Liverpool looked to protect their 1-0 advantage.
And Van Persie was impressed by the way Henderson guided his teammates through the contest.
‘You could see Liverpool were searching in the first half, but when Henderson came on you could see his leadership,” Van Persie said.
“He was yelling to his teammates to go out on every single duel, he was really good on the ball, confident. He was like a proper, mature player, a real captain, so he made a big difference as well in the second half.”

Klopp came out and stated after the match that Henderson would have started last night, but he was only fit enough to play for 45 minutes.
The Liverpool captain is making his way back from a recent injury, and the Reds are in no position to take risks with his recovery.
Liverpool are already suffering with injuries to key players, which makes Henderson’s leadership skills more important than ever at this moment in time.
Liverpool are next in action against Sheffield United at the weekend, when Henderson does look likely to start.
