Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Jurgen Klopp was the one who convinced Liverpool to move for Luis Diaz in January.
Liverpool, much like every other top club, have a very complex recruitment structure made up of board members, scouts, sporting directors and analysts, but it was Klopp himself who pushed for this signing.
Indeed, Romano says that Klopp told the board that the Reds had to sign Diaz now before he moved to Tottenham as it would have been very tough to find a similar player at a similar price in the summer.
What’s Romano said?
The journalist shared what Klopp told the board about Diaz.
“Who is the man behind this story? Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager. Klopp had a direct contact with the head of scouting and a part of the board and they decided to spend the money immediately on Diaz. He was very clear with the board saying ‘we need to sign this player, we can’t lose him because in the summer it will be complicated to find a winger at the level of Luis Diaz with the price of Luis Diaz.’” Romano said.

Had to move
Klopp was absolutely right, it was now or never for Liverpool signing Diaz.
The Reds had apparently wanted to wait until the summer to make their move, but with Tottenham reportedly on the verge of bringing him in, they had to act quickly and decisively, which they did.
Luckily, the Reds got their man, and if he’s as good as Klopp thinks he is, they will have gotten an absolute star.
