Jim Beglin has commented on Thiago Alcantara’s ‘big time mistake’ for Liverpool against last night.
Liverpool wound up beating Newcastle United 3-1 but Jurgen Klopp’s side had to come from behind to do so.
That’s because Jonjo Shelvey fired Newcastle into a shock lead early on when his long-range effort beat Alisson Becker.
It was a sloppy goal for the Anfield outfit to concede and Spanish midfielder Thiago was arguably most to blame.
But co-commentator Jim Beglin claimed that the £20 million Michael Edwards signing held his hands up and apologised to his Reds teammates directly after the goal.
He said live on DAZN: “Big time mistake from Thiago. You could see that. He knew himself with his actions. He was very apologetic to his teammates.”
Was Thiago responsible?
In a word, yes.
That’s because it was an awful clearance from Thiago which zipped straight to the feet of Shelvey, a former Liverpool player himself.
Fortunately, Thiago plays for one of the best teams in Europe and overturning an early deficit against arguably the worst side in the Premier League didn’t prove overly difficult, with Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold scoring the goals.
Victory helped Liverpool move back to within a point of Manchester City at the summit.
