Tottenham Hotspur ruthlessly flashed their credentials for Champions League qualification this evening.
After Arsenal suffered a 2-1 defeat by Brighton at the Emirates, Spurs dismantled Aston Villa 4-0 in the Midlands to establish a three-point cushion over their North London rivals in fourth place in the Premier League.
Son Heung-min was Tottenham’s hero of the evening, scoring a brilliant hat-trick to inspire his teammate on the day.
However, Lloris was called into action too and produced massive saves at major moments, providing the foundations for this mauling.
And Son has paid homage to the France international, a £12 million signing in 2012.
He said to BBC: “Without Hugo we were probably 3-1 down in the first half, Hugo saved us today and it was a big performance from our captain when we needed him and he turned up saving every ball. He was unbelievable.”
Indeed it was a stunning performance by the former Lyon goalkeeper and that’s how important a reliable goalkeeper can be.
