Patrick Bamford has revealed that Leeds United team-mate Ian Poveda has improved his attitude away from the football pitch.
Poveda joined the Whites from Manchester City last January and is seen as a player with a lot of potential.
The 20-year-old hasn’t played a huge amount of Premier League football under Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa this season, managing 270 minutes.
But Bamford has revealed that the young attacker is hungry to impress Bielsa after claiming that the senior players at Thorp Arch had to throw an arm around him regarding late arrivals to training.
The United striker, a £10 million signing in 2018, said on Leeds’ official podcast: “The start of this season he was turning up late. The lads put an arm round him and said ‘you’ve got to change that’. Now, the fitness stuff is up at 7.30am and he will be out on the pitch doing stuff on his own.”
If true, this is class from the Leeds lads.
Clearly the players at Thorp Arch believe in Poveda’s ability and as senior members of the squad, it’s a lot of their duty to keep an eye on the younger boys and steer them in the right direction.
As mentioned, Poveda has an abundance of potential and the fact that the Leeds stars are helping him and guiding him off the field bodes very well for his chances to fulfill it.
