Stephen Warnock says David Raya’s situation at Arsenal is ‘really interesting’ after he could have joined Bayern Munich in the summer.

The former Premier League left-back claimed that David Raya had the chance to become Bayern Munich’s ‘number one’, but instead, he opted to move to the Emirates from Brentford.

The Spanish star has joined on an initial loan deal, with his arrival sparking huge debate as to who will now become Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper.

Well, on Sunday, Mikel Arteta dropped Aaron Ramsdale to the bench and handed David Raya his debut, with Warnock thinking it might now cause issues in the dressing room, as he told The Football Show on Sky Sports.

Some might think this is perhaps the start of the end for Ramsdale, but not according to his name.

Mikel Arteta is hinting that he will continually change his keepers, and he even wants to do it mid-game – that claim was dubbed the ‘worst idea in football’ by one pundit.

David Raya picks Arsenal over Bayern Munich

“David Raya was tipped to go to Bayern Munich, as the number one,” said Warnock. “Now, if you aren’t going to go to Bayern Munich as the number one, then what has Mikel Arteta told you to get you to Arsenal?

“He has told you that ‘you are going to play a lot of games’. I think it is going to be really interesting and it could possibly be a little fractious in the changing rooms with working that dynamic out between the goalkeepers.”

Raya or Ramsdale – who starts Champions League opener?

Arsenal return to the Champions League on Wednesday night after a six-year absence, with Dutch side PSV visiting the Emirates Stadium – Thierry Henry shared his thoughts.

All eyes will be on the line-up and whether Arteta sticks with Raya or brings back Ramsdale.

Whatever call he makes, the same noise and spotlight will be on the two goalkeepers again on Sunday because Arsenal host rivals Tottenham in the north London derby.
