The 2025 NextGen ATP Finals have now arrived, with the future stars of the ATP Tour currently showcasing their talent in Jeddah.
The NextGen ATP Finals features the world’s top 20-and-under singles players of the ATP Tour season, and is played at the King Abdullah Sports City.
American Learner Tien is the top seed this year, and he is joined by the likes of Nishesh Basavareddy and Alexander Blockx.
They will be looking to follow in the footsteps of previous champions, with that list including inaugural winner Chung Hyeon.
Inaugural NextGen ATP Finals champion Chung Hyeon has zero ATP titles
South Korean Chung emerged as the very first champion in 2017, outclassing the rest of the field and truly announcing himself to the ATP Tour.
He made it through the groups before semifinal and final wins over Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev respectively.
But it’s fair to say that he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since then, although injuries have massively played their part.
Once climbing as high as 19th, Chung is currently ranked 363rd on the ATP Tour, and has zero titles to his name.
Now 29, he has an 87-70 win-loss record, with a superb 2018 Australian Open semifinal run among his career achievements.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz among former NextGen ATP Finals champions
There have been plenty of success stories from the NextGen ATP Finals, with current ATP stars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz perhaps unsurprisingly involved.
The Italian won the tournament in 2019, defeating Alex de Minaur in the final, with the Australian having lost in the final in 2018 too.
Alcaraz meanwhile won the 2021 edition of the NextGen ATP Finals, overcoming Sebastian Korda to clinch the title.
It was Stefanos Tsitsipas who beat De Minaur in 2018, while Brandon Nakashima, Hamad Medjedovic and Joao Fonseca represent the other former winners.
