Speaking to Stadium Astro, Alan Smith has been speaking about Arsenal’s attacking options and Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gunners aren’t blessed with a number of quality number nines at the moment. Lacazette is their only recognised senior centre-forward, and even then, his contract is up in the summer.

Lacazette has looked good in recent weeks, but one thing that Smith has noticed is that the Frenchman is looking slower than he once did, stating that Lacazette was never the quickest centre-forward.

What’s been said?

Smith gave his verdict on Lacazette.

“Lacazette has been a very good servant, but you know, his legs don’t move quite as quickly as they once did. He was never quick, but with Aubameyang now gone, that is an area where Arsenal are now short,” Smith said.

Need someone faster

As Smith says, Lacazette isn’t the fastest striker on the planet, and that doesn’t really complement the Gunners’ current style of play.

The likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are brilliant are progressing the ball rapidly and catching teams off-guard, but Lacazette’s lack of pace hinders that.

If Arsenal had someone truly rapid spearheading their attack, then the Gunners may find it easier to get into more dangerous positions, and in turn, they would likely score more goals.
