Ryan Mason has confirmed to Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga was ‘in a lot of pain’ after being taken off last night.
Tanganga had to be stretchered off during Tottenham during Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa.
It was a real blow to the right-back, who has waited so long for a first-team chance this season.
And although Mason could not confirm the severity of the problem after the match, he did suggest that the player was really struggling when withdrawn.
“It wasn’t great. He was in a lot of pain. Let’s hope it’s not too serious,” he said.
“It was down the lower leg. Ankle or shin. We’ll assess him tomorrow.”
In all likelihood it seems that Tanganga’s season is now over.
Tottenham are in action again on Sunday, when they will face Leicester City.
Tanganga was replaced by Matt Doherty yesterday, and the Irish international now appears most likely to start at the weekend.

That will be a blow for Spurs as Doherty has not looked particularly solid this term.
The former Wolves man has really struggled since his move to North London, and there is now big pressure on Tottenham to pick up a result against Brendan Rodgers side, as they battle to claim a Europa League space.
