Everybody knows that Erling Haaland is a Leeds United fan.
Well, every Leeds fan knows that the Norwegian superstar supports the Elland Road club, anyway.
Haaland was born in West Yorkshire and the fact that he whispered ‘Marching on Together’ to Stuart Dallas in an international game last year illustrates that he is in fact mad about Leeds.
And the club’s director of football Victor Orta has revealed that he was trying to bring the player to United in the recent past.
The Spaniard told TV2 in Norway that he had the 20-year-old striker at Thorp Arch in 2018, but that Red Bull Salzburg ultimately had better resources available.
He said: “He was here [in Leeds]. We tried to persuade him, but we did not have enough resources when we were in the Championship. He visited the gym and watched a match with us. He is a Leeds United supporter. We tried and tried, but it was not possible.”
That was the same year Leeds signed Patrick Bamford and although Whites’ fans absolutely adore the English striker for his efforts in the Premier League last season, scoring 17 goals, Haaland is obviously next level and they wouldn’t have minded the 6’4 hitman in their ranks either.
Haaland went on to secure a big move to Borussia Dortmund 18 months ago but, having scored 41 goals in all competitions last season, it’s inevitable that an even bigger transfer awaits him in the near future.
