Jamie Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that he thinks Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is ‘next in line’ to be England’s main striker behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
Everton’s thriving forward, who was previously ‘getting criticised’, as mentioned by Carragher, has now added goals to his game, and in bucket loads.
The 23-year-old has scored 13 Premier League goals this season – the same number as Tottenham hitman Kane, who is expected to lead the line for his country at the Euros.
Carragher was asked whether he now sees Calvert-Lewin as a shoo-in for England and he said ‘I think so’.
“I actually see, I wouldn’t say a mainstay of the squad, on the back of this season and the goals he has scored, I think he’s next in line,” said Carragher. “I would say behind Harry Kane. He has certainly played many games this season.
“The standout thing from Calvert-Lewin is how many goals he gets. You are talking about a penalty box or six-yard striker. Eight goals in the six-yard box.
“He’s another, as we mentioned with Patrick Bamford, a couple of years ago, he was playing for Everton and he was getting criticised for not scoring. But he was actually getting in the team because of other things.
“But now they get the goals, they get the credit because the goals get the headlines. But the coaches and the players that play with them, don’t forget what they bring.”

It could be argued that ever since Carlo Ancelotti walked through the doors at Finch Farm, Calvert-Lewin has been the player he has transformed and turned into a world-beater.
That was proven by his performance at Old Trafford over the weekend where he scored a stoppage-time equaliser against Manchester United.
Everton are dreaming about a European finish, and Tottenham could be a team they dethrone from that position, as Calvert-Lewin’s goals could be crucial as to whether they can get over that line.
