Paul Merson says Thomas Partey was ‘fortunate’ not to get sent off during Arsenal’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday night.
After Rob Holding had pulled a goal back for Arsenal in the dying minutes, the home side were still baying for more blood and Erling Haaland was looking for a goal of his own.
As Manchester City’s goal machine knocked the ball past Thomas Partey, the Arsenal midfielder proceeded to grab the 33-goal striker and take him to ground.

Given that Partey was already on a yellow card, then the 29-year-old was probably lucky not to get a second because, if it was a precious moment of the game, then more would have been made of it.
Former Arsenal man Paul Merson certainly feels that Partey was a lucky boy, as he told Sky Sports News (26/04/23 at 9:50 pm).
“There is coming together of Partey and Haaland there,” said Merson. “Partey has already been booked. He is fortunate not to get another yellow here and get sent off.”

PARTEY’S FORM DROPS OFF
It’s four games without a win for Arsenal and Partey’s form has been an issue in every single one of those games.
He has been a crucial player for the Gunners this season and a key reason why they have been pushing for the Premier League title.
But he can’t deny he has been well-off it during a period of the season where they needed him most.
