Former Leeds United defender Ben Parker spoke on the LS11 Podcast after last night’s 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Leicester City.
Patrick Bamford had a chance to put his side ahead in the opening minutes of the game, but his header was straight at Kasper Schmeichel. The Dane started a counter-attack, and Harvey Barnes completed the move to give Leicester the lead.
Things went from bad to worse as Youri Tielemans doubled Leicester’s lead in the 21st minute and the Foxes went in at half time with a 2-0 lead.
Bielsa must have had a real go at his players at the break. Leeds came out firing and it took a little over two minutes for Stuart Dallas to halve the deficit. Half-time substitute Ian Poveda was the star of the show in the second half.
Leeds had a real go at Leicester and arguably deserved another goal. But Jamie Vardy’s strike in the 76th minute put the game beyond reach. Tielemans grabbed his second in stoppage time to seal the deal, but Parker was really impressed with Poveda’s second-half display.

He said: “I thought Poveda looked bright again when he came on. I like the look of him. Whether he’s probably done enough to push for a start, I don’t know. It’s difficult because the competition in the wide areas is arguably the strongest point of our team at the moment. But I’d say he was bright.”
Poveda is yet to start in the Premier League for Leeds but has caught the eye whenever he has come on as a substitute. The 20-year-old was brilliant against Manchester City last month as well, and it is only a matter of time before he makes his full league debut.
