Alisson has sung the praises of Liverpool team-mate Fabinho following his commanding performance on Sunday.
The Reds humbled big-spending Chelsea and returned to Merseyside with a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.
Sadio Mane scored both goals for Liverpool, who had a big-name debutant in the form of Thiago following his move from Bayern Munich on Friday.
One of the pre-match talking points was whether Jurgen Klopp’s side could shackle Timo Werner, who was heavily linked with a move to Anfield earlier in the summer.
The German manager played midfielder Fabinho in a centre-back role and despite being out of his comfort zone, the powerful Brazilian barely gave Werner a sniff at goal all evening.
And goalkeeper Alisson, who saved a penalty from Jorginho, said afterwards that the former Monaco powerhouse was quite simply a ‘monster’ and his Man of the Match.
He told LFCTV: “He was a monster this afternoon. Unbelievable. This is what I expect from him. He’s a top player anywhere he plays, from [number] six or centre-back. He always does his best and his quality permits him to play in different positions. He’s a really smart player. In my opinion, Man of the Match.”
Everytime Fabinho plays central defence he seems to have a stormer.
Liverpool knocked Bayern Munich out of the Champions League a couple of years ago, and the big Brazilian was a centre-back that night too, charged with the task of keeping Robert Lewandowski quiet, but he did precisely that.
Klopp lost a centre-back in the form of Dejan Lovren this summer and maybe, just maybe, they could use Fabinho as a replacement when necessary rather than spend millions on a real one.
