Thierry Henry has stated that Darwin Nunez is trying to ‘wow’ the Liverpool supporters following their 2-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Premier League legend added how Nunez is someone that is ‘rushing it’ in front of the goal, and when he finds more composure, then he can be more of a handful than he already is.
Nunez didn’t start last night’s game at Anfield, instead, Jurgen Klopp brought the 23-year-old off the bench, and as he has done on many occasions, he caused havoc during his brief time on the pitch.
Mohamed Salah is claiming the goal, but it was Nunez’s header that nearly crossed the line from a corner, which Liverpool’s flying winger on the right was quickest to pounce and finish off to open the scoring.
Ironically enough, Liverpool’s second goal was a carbon copy of the first, this time it was Virgil van Dijk winning the header and then Nunez reacting quickest to the rebound.
Either way, Thierry Henry shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s 23-year-old and the impact he is having on the Merseyside club, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (01/11/22 at 10:30 pm).
“I think he needs confidence,” said Henry. “The confidence I am talking about is when you are at a club and you feel like you are going to play, week in and week out, then you are a bit more cold in front of the goal.
“Because he wants to please so much and do so much. He wants to ‘wow’ the Liverpool fans, then sometimes he rushes it. He gets the ball and he rushes it, instead of controlling the ball, going back on his right foot or finishing it clean. I went through that. When you arrive, a big signing, then you come after Sadio Mane, which isn’t easy to do.
“A bit like Alexis Sanchez or a young Luis Suarez. When you felt that things were bouncing off him and stuff like that. When you can master what you are good at, then you can control it better. When that will happen to him, then I think he will be a handful.
On whether he will be clinical: “He’s more the type of guy that when he will get one, then things will come. Is he a finisher like Robbie Fowler? I don’t think he is a finisher like Robbie Fowler, not many were, in all fairness. But he has goals in him and he’s more of a handful, so sometimes he will rush stuff.”

Other than Liverpool’s trip to Naples during the reverse fixture, all in all, they have looked a different animal when playing in the Champions League compared to the Premier League.
Yesterday’s win was a sign of what this team still has in their locker because they beat the Serie A leaders, a team on a 13-game winning run and a team that were yet to be beaten this term.
Liverpool supporters will be scratching their heads after watching this very same side lose to bottom-of-the-table Nottingham Forest recently and a Leeds United side that hadn’t won since August.
Either way, they face a very tricky clash against Tottenham at the weekend, who booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League after their incredible win over Marseille last night.
