Arsenal have been told to go and sign Donny van de Beek of Manchester United.

Kevin Campbell told The Highbury Squad on YouTube that he’d like to see the out-of-favour Dutchman at Arsenal.

Van de Beek has endured an awful time at the Red Devils since joining for £40 million in 2020.

The 24-year-old has started just the four Premier League games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Each passing week it looks more unlikely that the midfielder is ever going to prove himself a success at Manchester United.

And Campbell says he’d like him at Arsenal.

He said: “I only want what’s best for Arsenal and I believe Van de Beek can play, if given the opportunity. The boy can play. He wants out. I think this young man has super ability.

“He can play anywhere around the midfield – holding, at eight, and he can play attacking. We’ve got another one who is versatile – a plug-and-play player for us.”

Scholes-esque

There’s no doubt that Van de Beek is much better than he’s been able to show at Old Trafford.

Ian Wright labelled him a ‘fantastic player’ [MEN] in October and advised him to leave United.

But the biggest compliment has come from Edwin van der Sar, who likened him to Paul Scholes a little more than a year ago.

He also told MUTV: “I’d compare him a little bit to Scholesy, although Scholesy had a cracker of a shot from 30/40 yards out and that’s not Donny’s strength, but he likes to come into the box and chip in with goals.”

Remember, Van der Sar and Van de Beek are both Ajax lads and so if the legendary goalkeeper – who knows the style of both – compares him to Scholes then it has to be considered a huge compliment.

Arsenal could do with a Scholes-type figure in midfield but whether Manchester United would let him move to North London seems doubtful.
