Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has told ESPN Argentina that Jack Grealish plans to stay at the club next season.

Martinez, who joined Villa from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the summer of 2020, has raved about Grealish.

The Argentine goalkeeper has added that the England international attacking midfielder wants to stay at Villa, who have plans to aim even higher next season.

Martinez told ESPN Argentina about Grealish: “He’s a good boy. He was born here (in Birmingham) and has loved the club since he was little. He gives everything for them. He is a player that you always need on and off the pitch.

“Villa are on the rise, it is clear from the numbers. We are doing important things and next year knowing each other more we will be fighting higher. Jack wants to be a part of it. He wants to be part of making Villa grand.”

Encouraging for Aston Villa

Martinez’s aforementioned comments about Villa and Grealish should encourage the fans for two reasons.

The former Arsenal star’s remarks show that the Villans are very ambitious and are not just planning to be also-rans in the Premier League.

Dean Smith’s side are unlikely to end up in the Champions League places this season, but given how well the team have done this campaign, with a bit of investment in the summer they could challenge for the Premier League top four in 2021-22.

Martinez’s comments about Grealish also suggest that the 25-year-old, who can operate as a winger as well, plans to be at the club next season, and fans need not worry about him leaving despite speculation.
