Charles Watts has spoken highly about Arsenal’s January transfer capture, Jorginho, and how he has been ‘such an underrated signing’ for the club.

During the winter transfer window, with Mikel Arteta’s side chasing the Premier League title, they knocked on Chelsea’s door and brought in Jorginho.

Arsenal expert Watts thinks that ‘for just £10 million, he has been an absolute steal’, as he told Arsenal Insider.

The Arsenal-related journalist also shared that the rumours of Jorginho wanting to leave this summer weren’t true, as he always ‘wanted to stay’ and so did the club.

The 31-year-old is fully aware that he isn’t a regular starter, with summer signing Declan Rice making an outstanding start at his new club.

But with Champions League football set to kick in, his services will start to become very important.

Jorginho is ‘such an underrated signing for Arsenal’

“It’s just another example of what a good signing Jorginho has been,” said Watts. “Jorginho, for just £10 million, he has been an absolute steal. He has been such a good signing for Arsenal.

“He has done brilliant work on the pitch when he has played. He hasn’t let Arsenal down, at all. He has been fantastic. I really think he has a big part to play this season, especially in the Champions League.

“I think he is such an underrated signing for Arsenal since he has come in for £10 million. He has been an absolute steal. I am delighted the club kept him around this summer.

“There were obviously those rumours doing the rounds that he could potentially go. As I said, at the time, there was nothing in the rumours. No substance. He wanted to stay. Arsenal wanted him to stay.”

Arsenal’s squad depth

It’s what killed the team last season as they blew that lead at the top of the Premier League table during the final few months of the season.

That has been bulked up this summer, even if you include Jorginho who arrived in January, and now they have a man of his experience for the whole campaign.

But this is where the proper test will land on Arsenal’s doorstep because Champions League football kicks in this month and they have to balance out the two.
