Andy Townsend has alleged that Marcelo Bielsa was disgusted by one action from Leeds United’s Tyler Roberts last night.
Leeds got dumped out of the Carabao Cup by losing 2-0.
Second-half goals from Arsenal did the damage for a Whites side that did show a lot of promise going forward.
Roberts, a £4 million signing in 2018, was hauled off midway through the second half for wonderkid Joe Gelhardt.
And Townsend, speaking live on talkSPORT, has claimed that one instance of the Wales international losing the ball in Leeds’ half led to Bielsa taking him off immediately.
Townsend said: “When Tyler Roberts lost control of that ball, in his own half, Bielsa was not happy at all – arms were up in the air, he turned away in disgust. And literally within that second he turned to Gelhardt and said you’re going on.”
Ruthless
The 22-year-old pretty much played like a player who had managed only one Premier League start under Bielsa so far this season.
The former West Bromwich Albion marksman just hasn’t looked to be at the races at all for virtually the whole campaign.
Bielsa, in fairness, gave him a chance to impress last night but unfortunately for Roberts, it doesn’t seem like he grapsed the opportunity with both hands.
One thing you have to admire about the legendary Argentine coach is his decisiveness, the capacity to be absolutely ruthless when necessary.
And the fact that he had seen enough of Roberts after that error at Arsenal, swapping him for the 19-year-old, was an example of that.
