Speaking on the Super Six Podcast, Luke Ayling has shared what Marcelo Bielsa told the Leeds squad at half-time in their game against Liverpool last month.
The Whites’ game against the Reds was a true game of two halves, and Ayling says that Bielsa told the squad to be more attacking and get forward quicker in the second-half.
As it happens, this was an inspired change from the Argentine as Leeds managed to get a real foothold in a game they were rather unlucky not to win.
“It’s pretty much the same every game, we go into every game trying to win it and in the game last week we thought we’d done alright in the first half, but we were passing around the back and not really going forward. So he told us to get it forward a lot quicker, and then in the second-half we came out and we did really well, we scored the goal and maybe could have had a couple of others. Patrick had a couple of chances, but it wasn’t to be,” Ayling said.

This is why Bielsa is one of the best managers around.
Any other manager would have been tempted to sit back against Liverpool and be happy with just a 1-0 deficit at half-time, but Bielsa has faith in his style and his players’ abilities.
Leeds have managed to get results against Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd in recent weeks, and they’ve done that by playing their usual attacking brand of football.
