This time around about a year ago Michael Edwards announced that he was leaving Liverpool.
The great Sporting Director saw out last season at the Reds, but after the Champions League final against Real Madrid his time at Anfield was done.
Julian Ward has replaced him, and many are wondering what comes next for Edwards.
Well, according to Neil Jones, speaking to Redmen TV, Edwards isn’t planning on getting back into the game anytime soon.
Indeed, the journalist stated that he actually spoke to Edwards after the Champions League final defeat in Paris, and he was told that the Sporting Director was planning on taking something of a hiatus from the sport.

Edwards’ hiatus
Jones was told by Edwards himself that he’s taking a step back.
“I think that ‘hiatus’ is the word. I understand what the appeal is, he’s the transfer guru who transformed Liverpool, but that underestimates how Liverpool work, it wasn’t just Edwards picking out players,” Jones said.
“I think he was always planning to take a fair break from football. He told me that himself after the Champions League final. I said to him like ‘good luck with whatever comes next.’ And he said ‘Well, what comes next is a holiday, a long holiday.’ So the question is how big is the itch?”
Earned it
If any Sporting Director in world football has earned a long break from the game, it’s Edwards.
This is the man who built arguably the greatest Premier League team of all-time from scratch, and he’s more than proven his ability and worth within the game.
After years of high-pressure and high-intensity work at Liverpool, Edwards has earned himself a break.
Of course, whenever he comes back, he’ll surely have no shortage of offers, but when that will be remains to be seen.
