Graham Roberts has backed Tottenham Hotspur to sign James Maddison from Leicester City because he would ‘suit’ Ange Postecoglou’s system and be ‘perfect’ for Harry Kane.
The Tottenham legend added on Twitter that he would ‘100%’ like to see the England international in north London ahead of his possible exit from relegated Leicester.
The issue Spurs have is that they aren’t the only ones keen on James Maddison this summer and they might have to pay over the odds for a player that is very much liked by Newcastle United and valued at £60 million.

Both, from a financial standpoint, and the fact that they are in the Champions League, you would imagine that the Magpies hold the keys for the 26-year-old over someone like Spurs.
Plus, with a certain Daniel Levy running proceedings, he isn’t exactly someone that puts the money down required and gets deals done.
Either way, Roberts would like to see Maddison at Hotspur Way, as he explained what he could bring to the table.
“Lots asking me the last few weeks, would I like @Madders10,” said Roberts. “For me, 100 per cent I would like him. Would supply the perfect service for @HKane and scores so many great goals. Tottenham have not replaced Eriksen and Maddison is a perfect Spurs player who suits Ange’s system perfectly.
“If we can sign Maddison then sort the Centre back situation out and one or two more central midfielders, then we can have a very good season. And a goalkeeper if Hugo is going to leave as well. A lot of players to let go as well!”
Harry Kane’s future
If the England captain signed a new contract at Spurs today, then life would be a lot easier for the club to bring in talents like Maddison.
With Kane’s goals and performances, he would elevate the game of many, many players, including someone like Maddison, who gets to see him first-hand on the international stage.
Plus, since the exit of Christian Eriksen in 2020, Kane hasn’t had a player that could sit in the pockets and link-up play with him, well, with the possible arrival of Maddison, he gets that in bucket loads.
