Ian Wright told Premier League Productions during their live coverage of Everton’s win at the Emirates Stadium on Friday that Jordan Pickford still ‘worries’ him.

The England international was in fine form in North London a few nights ago and has been for a number of weeks as Everton chase an unlikely Champions League finish.

Even Everton fans are aware that a mistake from Pickford is around the corner, hence why many are on edge when he is playing.

And Highbury legend, Wright, is seemingly one of those people, and despite having concerns, he said he would still be his number one at the Euros.

“He still worries me,” said Wright. “Even when he’s playing a decent game. With the Euros coming up, he’s probably going to be our number one goalkeeper.

“The problem I have with him is that no matter how well your team is doing. I am never comfortable.

“It’s only since I stopped playing and I have been watching goalkeepers like Jordan Pickford, who make me nervous.

“He is somebody if I am playing then I am thinking ‘I have a chance here’ – I would pick Jordan Pickford (for England). But he frightens me.”

Whilst Pickford has had his troubles on Merseyside, time and time again, it seems to be the opposite when he’s on national duty.

For Gareth Southgate, he hasn’t put a foot wrong, and during the last major tournament, he was one of England’s best players.

And whilst there are calls for Pickford to be replaced by a Dean Henderson this summer, in truth, he hasn’t done anything wrong for his country and is deserving on that alone to keep his place in the starting XI.
