Tottenham Hotspur fans are celebrating Arsenal’s FA Cup exit for two reasons.

Not only are the Gunners their bitter North London rivals, which is enough of a reason to take joy in their downfall.

But it was a former Spurs player who had a big role in the victory.

Southampton knocked Arsenal – the reigning champions – out of the competition today with a 1-0 victory.

And Kyle Walker-Peters, who began his career at Tottenham and stayed there until last summer, forced the winning goal when his cross was deflected by Gabriel into his own net in the first half.

The Lilywhites sold the right-back for £12 million in what looked a brilliant deal, especially given that it helped Jose Mourinho bring Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to the club.

Given that Arsenal were the holders, this is quite a scalp for Walker-Peters and Southampton.

Tottenham resume their FA Cup campaign on Monday night with a trip to Wycombe Wanderers.
