Frank de Boer should make Tottenham’s Michel Vorm a top target at Crystal Palace.
Frank de Boer was appointed as Crystal Palace manager yesterday to a big fanfare amid hope of a new successful era for the Eagles.
De Boer spoke of his intent to help develop young players at the club, but an experienced goalkeeper should be a priority for the Dutchman.
Steve Mandanda has failed to settle in England and is likely to head back to France, while Wayne Hennessey is a player upon who they should be looking to improve on.
An ideal solution could be across London, in Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Michel Vorm, who is currently second choice behind the excellent Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham’s Michel Vorm
Vorm is good enough to be a number one, he proved this with Swansea City earlier in his career, and has featured in both the Europa League and Champions League for Spurs in recent seasons.
He is also a Dutch international and has just one year left remaining on his current deal at Tottenham.
Importantly Vorm is an admirer of Frank de Boer, having worked alongside him previously.
Frank de Boer
He told FourFourTwo in 2014: “Frank de Boer was an assistant manager with the national team, so I know him a little bit as well. You can also say that he was very passionate and on top of everything he did. He has done so well with the young players.”
At 33 Vorm would not perhaps be a long term answer, but he may be exactly what Palace and De Boer need right now, a steady, experienced goalkeeper with quality who can play a part in creating a strong spine to the team.
